Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls

Gluten Free Cinnamon Rolls

Well, here we are in 2013 and I know now is the time for resolutions. Now is the time for salads and juice cleanses, a time to bid farewell to butter and sugar. A time to usher in greens, lean proteins, and clean eating. But, how do you think that makes all of the other food feel? I feel a distinct duty to hold the hands of butter, sugar, fat and starch. They need love, too, and more than just once a year for the holidays. These gluten free cinnamon rolls are here for you and they don’t want to be shunned. They want to be doused in eggnog icing. They want to be enjoyed with a cup of espresso. They want you to save your greens for lunch.  {Keep reading…}

Gluten Free Pizzelles

Gluten Free Pizzelles

Christmas is my favorite time of year thanks to my incredible grandmother who is no longer with us, but her decades-old pizzelle maker is still around and given we made those cookies together every year, she lives strongly through that tradition. This year I had the challenge of making them gluten free, and well, what can I say? They turned out PERFECT.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup

Are you ready for Thursday? I know I am. I simply adore Thanksgiving. It’s warm, it’s filled with love, some savory, some sweet, and if you’re in my house – lots of butter. Hungarian Plum Dumplings

Hungarian Plum Dumplings

This time of year always reminds me of my sweet grandmother. She died two years ago and I miss her more than words can say. But each day I live is a day to honor her, and today we are doing just that with these beautiful plum dumplings – this is my food tribute to her. My mother used to eat these as a child, so my desire to recreate them gluten free came from wanting to give her a taste of what her mom used to make for her, as well as me wanting anything that’s rolled in bread crumbs cooked with cinnamon, sugar and butter. Trust me on this – these little plum dumplings are unique and sure to please.

Polenta Pizza

Polenta Pizza

One thing I have to say about gluten free cooking is that it forces creativity. In the past, I would have never thought to whip up polenta and turn it into pizza because I didn’t have to think that far outside of the box. But, there I was, having a flashback craving for the tostada pizza from California Pizza Kitchen (something I haven’t eaten in probably 10 years) and I was without a pizza crust, but with everything else. I had polenta mix in the cabinet, and thought, why not turn that into a crust for polenta pizza?  {Keep reading…}

Gluten Free Pumpkin Doughnuts

Gluten Free Pumpkin Doughnuts

Happy Halloween! I must admit, the only reason I look forward to Halloween is because it’s the gateway holiday to Thanksgiving, which is the gateway holiday to the mothership that is CHRISTMAS! I’m a freak for Christmas. I love it all – lit up trees, spiked eggnog, warm holiday-scented candles – come to think of it, presents can’t hurt either. But, I know, I know, we’re talking about Halloween. And with this day, comes pumpkins. But, in my world, pumpkins aren’t for carving, they’re for doughnuts. Gluten free pumpkin doughnuts to be specific. Oh yeah, it’s happening. Save your Snickers bars for the office party.  {Keep reading…}

Smoked Chicken White Chili

Smoked Chicken White Chili

Oh man, it’s good to be back. Last week was a flurry of packed schedules and exhaustion, but I’m happy to say that I made it through. For me, the act of preparing ingredients and stirring them in a huge pot over a warm stove just means comfort, and this one-pot wonder provides just that. This smoked chicken white chili is the best medicine for a rough week, so I’m glad I had a whole lot of it on-hand.  Let’s dig in, shall we?  {Keep reading…}
